Addresses
Charity Radar needs to store international addresses because many UK-based charities operate in other countries.
However, properly storing international addresses presents a challenge. Virtually every country formats their address differently. Additionally, different countries use different terms for the same thing. For example ZIP code in the US and postcode in the UK, something which doesn't exist at all the UAE.
Moreover, charities in Scotland and Northern Ireland are administered by different commissions to the Charity Commission which covers England and Wales. Therefore, it is suggested that England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland be treated as different countries for the purpose of addressing in the system. The different countries can be determined by the format of the charity number.
We will create address templates for each country. Initially, these will be the UK and a few others. Further countries will be added when demand justifies this. Although not difficult, adding extra countries will be time-consuming so it will be available to SYSADMIN users.
